Barcelona Casa Batlló
The casa Batlló in Barcelona is known as the Casa de los Huesos (Bone House), because the balconies are like fragments of skulls with holes for eyes and nose. Another interpretation says that the balconies look like Venetian masks. The facade, undulating and composed of a mosaic of glass and ceramics, gives as a result of the sun seem to be moving and undulating like waves. At the request of a textile industrialist Josep Batlló i Casanovas, Antoni Gaudí will transform this building built in 1877 by adding balconies, a roof decorated with multicolored ceramic tiles and embellished his own style chimneys, a loft and two additional floors. Inside, he reorganized the spaces to get more ventilation and natural light. Finally, the inner courtyard was widened, a large central skylight was added itself covered with ceramics.
